Have a fantastic time learning and playing. This indoor interactive zoo isn’t just for kids. Anyone can enjoy this up close experience with the ambassadors from the animal kingdom at Ark Avilon Zoo.

Ark Avilon Zoo is located behind Tiendesitas along C5 in Pasig. Its two-storey structure is shaped like an ark, much like that of Noah’s ark in the bible where animals found shelter and protection from the great flood.

I recommend you have a group picture with Jenny, the Bornean orangutan. She’s just so sweet and she’d give you a big hug anytime. She may also put her arms around you, kiss you on the cheek, or even ask you to carry her. Holding hands felt weird because it was like holding the hands of a human being, but it also felt endearing.

Another must is to have your pictures take with the birds. My favorite is C2 the cockatoo. I just raised my arm near it and it hopped on to me.

The other birds need to be brought to your arm or shoulder by the zoo’s staff, because they’re a bit shy.

In case the staff allows you, you may also want to experience getting up close with the eagle owls and white breasted sea eagles. But you’ll have to wear special protective gloves to cover your forearm because the claws of these birds are quite sharp.

Tyson, the Burmese python, is always ready to pose with you. Guests can put Tyson around their necks. It’s a bit heavy and it feels cold on your skin. It moved while I was holding it and that made me feel like it was going to squeeze me tight…. but it didn’t.

Ayla, the Palawan bearcat, is also very friendly. Usually the guests aren’t allowed to play with Ayla because it’s nocturnal, meaning it’s active at night and sleeps during the day. The staff would like Ayla to remain well-rested during the day. But since it was closing time and it was already awake, I had that awesome chance to carry it. Ayla’s very gentle and playful.

Bearcats are not bears and they're also not cats.

On the second floor I saw the most beautiful pigeon, it’s the Victoria Crowned Pigeon. I thought pigeons of all sorts looked the same, but this one’s different, it’s big. It has this feathery crown, red eyes, bluish-grey all over, except for its chest, which is color maroon.

Also on this floor you can feed animals with grass and vegetables like goats, sheep, pigs, rabbits, guinea pigs, and other farm animals.

You can also feed the meerkats with super worms. They’re very active. They keep running and jumping and they can stand on two feet.

Even if the place isn’t air-conditioned, I had such a relaxing time. Something about feeding the animals, touching them, and observing how they move… it’s therapeutic. Be sure to bring cameras to capture the fun moments.

*The first time I went to this zoo was for the shoot of I LOVE PINAS (click here for the airing schedule). It’s the travel show I host and it airs every Thursday 11:59pm on GMA News TV, and every Saturday 5:30pm+ on Light Network Channel 33. It also airs abroad through GMA Life TV International. Special thanks to the staff of I Love Pinas, staff of the zoo, and my friends for helping take photos. Like I Love Pinas on Facebook, click here
